Recieve Mortgage Relief in California
California will soon receive $1 billion in funding from the U.S. Treasury’s Homeowner Assistance Plan to provide qualified homeowners with mortgage relief. If you are currently behind on your mortgage payments because you lost your job, closed your business, or experienced other loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be eligible for up to $80,000 in mortgage relief funds to help you get back on track.
Who Qualifies for the California Mortgage Relief Program?
Eligible applicants must be California residents whose income is at or below 100% of their county’s Area Median Income; they must own a single-family home, condo, or manufactured home (permanently affixed); and they must have experienced financial hardship related to the pandemic after Jan. 21, 2020.
Additionally, eligible applicants must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Currently receiving public assistance
- Severely housing burdened
- Have no other alternative mortgage workout options available to them
What Documents Will I Need to Provide?
Once the program is launched, homeowners must submit an application as well as a detailed portfolio of documents that will be used to determine eligibility for the program. Documents that may be requested during the application process include the following:
- Affidavit attesting to qualified financial hardship
- Mortgage statement
- Income documentation
- Social Security Number and California ID
- Third Party Authorization and Disclosure Form
Additional documentation may be required under special circumstances, but don’t let the process intimidate you. A California Mortgage Relief Program advocate at Lawyers Realty Group can help you understand exactly which documents you need and how to submit them.
